Indiana

This week we've taken a side trip to visit Nana and Papa which meant road trip (which is hard to do on an island). We drove through Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky to Indiana.
We've been busy playing in the snow, chasing bunnies and spotting deer running across the road. Nana and Papa have bird feeders next to their windows so we've been able to see Cardinals (state bird of Indiana), Blue Jays, Blue Birds, Northern Flickers (state bird of Alabama) and different woodpeckers up close. Nana has explained how to tell the males from the females (usually more colorful) and had shown us the vases and bird houses when the wrens and bluebirds had their babies last spring.
We've been hiking in their woods, playing in the creek collecting Geods and fossils and watching as the drop in temperature caused the creek to freeze over, brrr!








Last year when we visited the girls made bird feeders from giant pinecones Nana brought back from Florida. They covered them in peanut butter and then stuck bird seed to the peanut butter, the birds loved them. This year we made Ice Art. We chose items laying around the yard acorns, pinecones, pine needles, leaves etc. and left them in containers of water overnight to freeze. Next morning we popped them out and hung them in the yard for the birds to enjoy. It's been cold while we've been here but we've been busy!
